Mission Statement
At Juicy Kitchen my mission is to nurture people with healthy, creative, flavorful food prepared with love, through our cafe, home delivery & catering.
About Me
I attended the Schoolcraft College Culinary Arts program in 1995, and have been in the fitness industry since 2003, catering for fun along the way. Before owning and operating Juicy Kitchen, I was a Personal Trainer and am still a Spinning instructor at Vie Fitness & Spa. I also provide them with their Spa Salads each day.
I know that delicious, creative, flavorful food can also be healthy, and that eating healthy food consistently strengthens the immune system and contributes to every aspect of good health. Along with exercise, a healthy diet is the best fountain of youth! I have found that as you begin to eat healthier on a consistent basis, you no longer crave sugary, fatty, starchy foods, but instead want foods that make you feel good and benefit your health.
What I Cook
I am not a vegetarian, but cook with lots of fresh vegetables, leaning toward what’s local and in season, and I offer vegan and vegetarian options. I love beans and whole grains, leafy greens and fresh fruit, and offer lean proteins like seafood, chicken breasts, turkey sausage & lean beef. I occasionally use small of amounts of pancetta, prosciutto and chorizo to flavor dishes for non-vegetarians. I consider myself a healthy foodie!
I buy all of my chicken breasts and most other meats at Sparrow’s Market because they come from locally sourced farms and are hormone free. I use organic vegetables and grains when feasible. I make my own vegetable stock for my soups, shop the Farmer’s Market, use produce from my Dad's amazing garden each summer, and most everything is cooked from scratch. I cook for my clients as I would cook for my family - with love!
All of my baked goods are made with whole grains and natural sweeteners, like ripe bananas. I rarely use butter in my baking and cooking, but instead use coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil, known for their health benefits.
Portion Sizes
Entrees are generous portion sizes for one adult. Salads are large enough for one adult meal or a two or three person side salad. Soups and salads by the quart are two full servings or three to four side servings. Soups not by the quart are 16 oz, enough for one adult meal.
Our Smart Bars and muffins are medium sized, and nutritious enough for breakfast, and the “smart cookies” are large, also appropriate and delicious for breakfast . Breakfast parfaits are 20 oz., and desserts are in a 12 oz. container - one adult portion.
